About the Role

This is a newly created senior finance leadership opportunity with a growing construction and real estate development organization in the Windsor area. The business has continued to expand across multiple construction and development projects and is investing further in the sophistication, scalability, and capabilities of its finance function.

Reporting directly to ownership, the Finance Leader will play a foundational role in the next stage of the organization’s growth. This is not a maintenance-focused accounting position. The successful candidate will take ownership of project accounting and financial operations across multiple concurrent projects while continuing to develop the systems, processes, controls, reporting, and team capabilities required to support a scaling business.

Working closely with ownership, Project Managers, site leadership, and other operational stakeholders, this individual will translate project-level activity into meaningful financial insight. They will provide visibility into job performance, cash flow, committed costs, work-in-progress, margins, and emerging risks—helping leadership understand not simply what has happened, but what requires attention and what actions should be taken.

The Finance Leader will also have an opportunity to help modernize how the organization approaches finance. This includes strengthening ERP utilization, improving reporting architecture, introducing greater automation, and actively exploring how AI-assisted tools can enhance forecasting, variance analysis, reporting, and financial workflows.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded CPA who understands the operational realities of construction or project-based environments and wants to have a direct voice in how a growing business develops its finance function for the future.

Key Responsibilities

* Oversee project accounting and financial operations across multiple simultaneous construction and development projects
* Manage job costing, committed costs, WIP reporting, cost-to-complete analysis, and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition
* Oversee progress billing and ensure accurate and timely project financial reporting
* Perform budget-to-actual variance analysis and proactively identify project risks, trends, and corrective actions
* Prepare monthly financial statements, executive dashboards, and project performance reporting for ownership and other stakeholders
* Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and period-end adjustments
* Monitor and forecast project-level and company-wide cash flow and identify future funding requirements
* Manage banking relationships and credit facility compliance
* Strengthen financial controls, project coding, workflows, and reporting architecture
* Maintain the integrity and accuracy of financial and project information within the ERP environment
* Support ERP improvements, integrations, automation, and other finance technology initiatives
* Coordinate external audits and liaise with tax and professional advisors
* Oversee statutory filings and compliance requirements, including HST/GST and source deductions
* Partner directly with Project Managers and operational leaders to improve project performance
* Mentor and develop accounting team members as the finance function continues to evolve

Ideal Candidate Profile

* CPA designation is required
* Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting and financial management experience
* Strong experience preparing and presenting financial information to senior leadership or ownership
* Hands-on knowledge of job costing, project accounting, financial reporting, and cash flow management
* Experience within construction, real estate development, manufacturing, or another project-driven environment is strongly preferred
* Strong understanding of Canadian GAAP, CRA compliance, and HST/GST requirements
* Experience with construction ERP/accounting systems; Sage 100 Contractor or comparable experience would be an asset
* Advanced Excel and strong financial analysis capabilities
* Experience supporting a business through growth or organizational scaling
* Interest in leveraging technology, automation, and AI to improve financial reporting and processes

The ideal candidate will be commercially sharp, self-directed, and comfortable challenging the status quo. They will be equally capable of getting into the financial details and stepping back to advise ownership on the broader implications for the business.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

* Newly created leadership position resulting from continued business growth
* Direct partnership with ownership and meaningful involvement in strategic decision-making
* Opportunity to continue building and developing the finance function rather than simply inheriting established processes

* Ability to introduce new systems, processes, automation, and AI-enabled tools into the finance function
* Opportunity to build and develop a finance team as the organization continues to scale
* Entrepreneurial environment where new ideas and continuous improvement are encouraged
* Significant long-term growth potential as the scope and complexity of the business continue to expand

Vacancy

This is a newly created position resulting from continued business growth and the ongoing development of the organization’s finance function. As the number and complexity of construction and development projects increase, ownership is looking to add dedicated senior financial leadership that can strengthen the existing foundation while building the processes, systems, reporting, and team capabilities required for the next stage of growth.

Compensation Package

* Base Salary: $140,000 – $150,000
* Company Performance Bonus
* Group Health & Dental Benefits
* RRSP Company Matching Contribution
